Workshop "Smart City, How Local Government Can Meet the Challenge"

The Municipality of Mytilene implemented on 18/02/2020, WORKSHOP entitled "CLEAR CITY, HOW LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT MAY RESULT IN CHALLENGE", in the Civic and Events Hall of Aigio. The action brought together experts and representatives of other municipalities with experience in implementing innovative actions, aiming at the exchange of good practices, experiences and the transfer of know-how between local governments in Greece and Cyprus in the implementation of "smart city" actions.
The following topics were discussed:

  • "Smart city": The big challenge for the upgrading of the Municipality of Mytilene, by the Special Adviser to the Mayor of Mytilene Mr. Tasos Balis
  • Clever "Mytilene": Challenges and Opportunities "by Mr. Dimitris Kavroudakis, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, University of the Aegean
  • "Security and Protection of Privacy in Smart Cities" by Mr. Christos Kalloniatis, Associate Professor, Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, University of the Aegean.
  • smART Trikala - the art of thinking differently, by Ms Mitsiadis Vassiliki - Eleni, Deputy Mayor of Trikala Municipality Technical Services.
  • How digital transformation is changing, Heraklion, by Mr. Konstantinos Mochianakis, Head of Information Technology at Heraklion Municipality

The Smart Cities Act is part of the Interreg V-A Greece Cyprus 2014 - 2020 Partnership Program and is co-funded by the European Union (ERDF) and National Resources of Greece and Cyprus. The main beneficiary is the Municipality of Paphos and the co-beneficiaries are the Municipalities of Mytilene and Chania.
Its purpose is to develop applications and actions using ICT to improve the interaction between Municipality and citizens, while creating an attractive environment for visitors, businesses and stakeholders.
